From a Dream to Inception
THE BEGINNING (THE 90s)
It all began in Mr. Beard’s algebra class. Lindsey sat up front, focused and driven. Darrell? He was in the back—usually sleeping, usually dreaming. They didn’t know they were high school sweethearts in the making, but something clicked. Lindsey ended up doing Darrell’s math work (sorry, Mr. Beard), and Darrell helped with Lindsey’s art projects. Who would’ve guessed those two teenagers would one day build a plumbing company together?
Darrell was all about music—playing guitar, writing songs, and dreaming of becoming a rock star. Lindsey was deep into sports, chasing a future as a college athlete. Two different worlds, but somehow they stayed connected. That mix of vision and discipline would come back around years later—this time, with a shovel instead of a guitar.
THE JOURNEY (2000s)
Lindsey left for college to chase softball. Darrell stayed behind, unsure of his path—until his neighbor Riki, a plumber, asked him if he wanted to go to work. That one question led to a jobsite, a shovel, and a whole new world. Darrell found himself watching, learning, and falling in love with the trade. Plumbing became one of his creative outlets, and he threw himself into it.
Lindsey, meanwhile, earned her business and math degree and eventually came back to William Chrisman—the same high school where they met—to teach and coach. She was shaping young minds. Darrell was building plumbing systems, forming deep respect for the trades, and developing a vision for something bigger.
By the end of the decade, Darrell had earned his Master Plumber’s License and was helping others earn theirs, too. The trade wasn’t just a job anymore. It was the beginning of something more.
THE NOW (2010s-2020s)
After nearly twenty years in the field, Darrell hit a wall. He wasn’t just thinking about plumbing—he was thinking about the industry, the customer, the tradesmen, and the experience. It wasn’t about just fixing pipes anymore. It was about curiosity, growth, and asking:
What more can I learn?
What more can I build?
Who must I become?He began to wonder:
What if we did it differently?
What if the trades were rebuilt from the inside out?
What if the world finally saw this work for what it is—essential, skilled, and full of purpose?He brought those thoughts home. And Lindsey—his teammate, his friend, his partner—didn’t hesitate. She looked at him and said:
“Do it.”That spark lit the fire. In 2017, they launched Inception Plumbing. No shortcuts. No investors. Just two people with a shared vision, the drive to build something meaningful, and the will to sacrifice for whatever it takes.
It started with one truck. Now it’s a team, a culture, and a mission—built on pride, built on people, and built to do things the right way—no matter what it takes.
